Artists » John Julius Tamm-Buckle

John Julius Tamm-Buckle was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He spent his childhood years living in Norway and Denmark, and by the time he moved to England at age ten, he was well educated in classical music as this constituted his only musical exposure at home. However, in the London area he discovered pirate radio stations, and subsequently the UK Hardcore and jungle scenes which kick-started his enthusiasm for alternative music. In 1996, John Julius became active in the rave scene, first as a DJ, then producer and promoter. Working in the St. Louis noise scene since 2002, John has found his interests diverging from the rigid structures of the various genres of electronica. He has been in the U.S. since 1997, and currently lives in St. Louis, Missouri, USA with his wife, parrot, starling and four chickens.
His music has many influences, ranging from the electronic dance music he listened to in his teens to improvisational music and modern classical. Tamm-Buckle has many talents. One involves capturing low-quality field recordings, running them through a many-cabled blender of indescribable technological tools, and modification of the resulting sounds with difficult-to-use computer programs. Another involves wearing headphones, pushing buttons, and twiddling knobs. His parrot is even noisier than his music.
